# Creating an Encrypted Account

## Creating an Encrypted Account

Before you can shield, send, or receive funds privately, you set up your encrypted account. This is a one-time step.

### Steps

1. **Connect your wallet.** Open HEAA Dark Pool and connect your Solana wallet (such as Phantom). Approve the connection in the wallet popup.
2. **Create your encrypted account.** Click **Create Encrypted Account**. Your wallet will ask you to sign a message.
3. **Sign the message.** This signature derives your private keys on your device. It is not a transaction — nothing moves, and there's no network fee for this step.
4. **Done.** Your encrypted account is ready. The app now shows your encrypted balances and unlocks shielding, private transfers, and the private-swap desk.

### What's happening

The signature you provide is used to generate the private keys that control your encrypted account. Those keys never leave your device. This is why setup is instant and free — you're not sending anything on-chain, you're establishing the keys that make your private balance yours.

### Good to know

* You only do this once per wallet. If you return later, or use another device, connecting the same wallet re-derives the same keys.
* Anyone who wants to **receive** funds from you privately also needs to complete this step on their end.
